It is a Dengaku-mai dance, being the only one existing in Tochigi Prefecture, which is dedicated to Otariya-festival (January 15), Tamaisai-festival (May 15), and Otariya-festival (December 15) of Utsunomiya Futaarayama-jinja Shrine every year. It is said that Dengaku came into existence as an agricultural ritual toward the end of Heian Period, and it is thought that outbreak of the Dengaku-mai dance of Horigome dates back considerably.
