Ishinada Yasaka-jinja Shrine Tennou-Sai Festival

Descended from Yasaka-jinja Shrine in Kyoto, it is performed for one week to pray for driving plague off in summer on the last Saturday in July which is scheduled as a day of Shousenguu (installation of sacred symbol into a main shrine). It begins with “Gesengu” which puts Goshintai (object of deity) on O-mikoshi (a miniature shrine) to move it to “Okariya” (temporary shrine), and when the O-mikoshi returns on the last day, the festival ends up with “Shousenguu” which then installs the sacred symbol in the new main shrine. A tsuke-matsuri festival with a Yatai parade, is held in the ratio once in up to 4 years.
